The Voices of East Harlem 1973/2020

The Voices were, an often, 20-member ensemble whose ages ranged from 12 to 21. They worked with producers Leroy Hutson and Curtis Mayfield on their recordings for the Just Sunshine Records label.

‘Voices of East Harlem’ was their debut for the imprint from 1973 and includes the iconic Modern Soul dancer ‘Cashing in’ and the massive Rare groove classic ‘Wanted Dead or Alive’. The stomping ‘Just Believe In Me’ is a funky soul gem, ‘Little People’, the up tempo floater ‘New Vibrations’ and beautiful ballads ‘Giving Love’ and ‘Loving you the way I do’ are also essential but the whole album is a classic. Vocalist Monica Buruss also worked with a host of other acts including Roy Ayers.

Leroy Hutson – Hutson 1975/2020

https://ulozto.net/file/OvvExxQHJhWB/leroy-hutson-hutson-rar
With a series of innovative, stylish and critically-acclaimed albums that he recorded throughout the seventies, multi-talented singer, keyboardist, producer/songwriter Leroy Hutson has been responsible for creating his own musical style, a style and sound that have made classics of his works. He is also well known for his contribution as co-writer of Donny Hathaway’s masterpiece, “The Ghetto”, and his participation as lead singer for the legendary “Impressions” when he replaced Curtis Mayfield.

Leroy”s music continues to live today having been sampled by such renowned acts as Erykah Badu, Rapper Too-Short and Bones, Thugs-N-Harmony. Of all his albums ‘Hutson’ subsequently known as ‘Hutson 1’ is widely considered as his greatest. The full production with string and horn sections make a perfect complement to the songs and his seductive voice. Every track on the album is worthy of note, but especially ‘Lucky Fellow’ and ‘All Because of You’ which rank amongst the best songs that he has written or recorded. Hutson 1 was his third solo album, he went on to record a further four albums for Curtom in the 70’s, before recording one for Elektra and fading into obscurity.

Interest in Leroy’s work was rekindled in the ‘Rare Groove’ era in the late 80’s/early 90’s, when his albums began to get the full appreciation that they deserved. “I was truly honoured when I found out, ” he comments. “I greatly appreciated and liked the idea that there was longevity to my music. People in Britain were getting excited about records that were ten to twelve years old, so of course, it was very flattering.” Leroy was also known for his production work most notably the two superb Natural Four albums, Voices of East Harlem and Arnold Blair’s two step classic ‘Trying to get next to you’.
And it is perhaps the production, arrangement and orchestrations of the songs on this album that make it still stand out as such a special record nearly thirty years after it was recorded.

PATRICE RUSHEN POSH 1980/2020 REMASTERED

https://ulozto.net/file/TLtLi91XjptB/patrice-rushen-posh-remastered-rar
By 1980, when ‘Posh’ was released, Patrice Rushen had made a huge musical shift from her Jazz and Jazz Funk recordings for Prestige Records to the mainstream of Soul and R&B. ‘Posh’ was her third album for Elektra and the most commercial orientated to date. The album is well-crafted, with catchy tunes and excellent arrangements played to a high standard. ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ was a US dance hit and is a very infectious tune. ‘Look Up!’ and ‘Time Will Tell’ are also strong good time grooves. On ‘The Funk Won’t Let You Down’ she reverts to her funkier style where she can stretch out musically a bit more. ‘Posh’ is a fine album that put Patrice more in the Soul public’s eye.

Disco originator Hamilton Bohannon dies aged 78 / R.I.P

He was responsible for hits like "South African Man" and "Disco Stomp."
Pioneering disco musician Hamilton Bohannon has died at the age of 78.

Bohannon died on Friday, according to the Newnan Times-Herald. His cause of death is unknown.

Starting out as a drummer in Stevie Wonder's touring band (and before that, with a then unknown Jimi Hendrix), Bohannon eventually became a Motown bandleader, providing live musical backing for groups like The Supremes, The Four Tops and more. In the early '70s he went solo and produced a string of hits that proved vital to the establishment of disco, including "South African Man," "Disco Stomp," "Foot Stompin' Music" and "Let's Start The Dance." His career in dance music and R&B continued through the '80s, and he largely stopped releasing music after 1990.

Bohannon's legacy also extends to hip-hop and house music, with artists like Paul Johnson, Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg all sampling his songs.
